The Southern Vampire Mysteries

The Southern Vampire Mysteries or The Sookie Stakehouse Series or The True Blood Novels.

I am sure that you have all heard of the HBO TV series True Blood starring Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Ryan Kwanten and Alexandar SkarsgĂ„rd and seen the bestselling books that they are based by Charlaine Harris. The books are everywhere, I have found most of mine in thrift stores. Anyway I was reluctant to read them at first, as I didn’t really enjoy the first season on True Blood. That was probably because I watched it on a long haul and the flight attendant some how managed to only interrupt me when it was in the middle of one of the more raunchy scenes. So I spent most of the flight rather embarrassed. So this summer when I was sick I thought I would give them a go. Well I must have enjoyed them because 3 weeks later I had all 12 of the published books (the final book is yet to be published). I was sick so I didn’t have much else to do, but I was surprised to get to the 12 book and realize I had read them all.

The are no works of literary brilliance, reading them won’t change your life but they are a highly enjoyable, entertaining read. Perfect for summer lounge on the beach or by the pool. Or even a long haul flight, although you might need a couple, they are super easy to read and not very long. If you have been thinking about reading them then now is the time to do it the last book will be released early May 2013, so if you don't want the ending ruined get reading.

The series is narrated in first person from the perspective of the main character, Sookie Stackhouse. She is a waitress and a telepath from the fictional town of Bon Temps in northwestern Louisiana. The books are set in a world just like ours they only difference is that two years ago the vampires came out of the coffin so to speak and declared themselves to humanity as a none threat. It turns out there are lots of other supernatural creatures out there as well, just the right mix so that Sookie always finds herself in some kind of trouble.

The books in order are.

I am very curious to see how the series finishes, I know what I want to have happen but I just can't see it actually happening.

I won't go into plot details as I hate spoiling things, I good enough at putting my foot in it real life, I don't need to master that ability on the internet as well. I do recommend you read them if you are after something light, funny, sexy that will keep you guessing.

P.S. My favourite character is Pam.
